A car has become much more than a vehicle that transports us to our destinations. It is continuously becoming a piece of complex and advanced technology. The industry needs an evolving set of skills to manage this transition.
In an interaction with ET Digital, Neelabh Shukla, CBO of Careernet, a talent services provider, says the skill requirements in the automotive industry are evolving. He explains how professionals should be prepared to handle this change. Edited excerpts:
How is the growth of electric vehicles (EVs) in India creating more jobs for tech professionals, and what are the job projections for the next five years?
EVs are a rapidly growing industry, and lakhs of new jobs are being created across India. The industry is set to create 5 million direct jobs and 30 million indirect jobs by 2030, highlighting its potential to reshape the employment landscape.
Adoption of EVs and the development of charging infrastructure is creating jobs in manufacturing, charging station installation and maintenance. Manufacturers and service providers are gearing up to support the electric vehicle (EV) industry’s transition by building essential roles around it.
Expats are increasingly interested in taking short-term assignments in India, particularly in roles that involve conceptualising, designing, and developing core EV technologies and infrastructure, often accompanied by substantial pay increases. As the economy formalises, support roles within the industry will see rising salaries, and policy initiatives are expected to further enhance their earning potential.
