The first phase of the placements have closed in the top Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) campuses in Delhi, Kanpur, Mumbai, Guwahati, Roorkee, Chennai, and Kharagpur. According to data from Careernet, about 40-45% of students were placed in the first phase, as opposed to the 52-55% seen in previous years.
Anshuman Das, CEO of Careernet, shared insights with CNBC-TV18, stating that while the initial phase of placements experienced a minor dip, projections for FY24 indicate a rise in placements within the IT and software sectors. Despite cautious hiring sentiments amid market slowdown, IITs have maintained average salaries and stipends, with international offers showing promise, including a notable highest package of ₹3 crores in the first phase.
Hiring by the consulting firms has seen a sharp decline, when compared to previous years.
